Works are currently being undertaken by Blackpool Coastal Housing’s Capital Works Team to redevelop resident accommodation at Sheltered Housing Scheme Dunsop Court.

The properties had previously been difficult to let due to their studio design with combined living, dining and bedroom space. Each of the existing 45 bedsits are being transformed into modern 1 bedroom flats, complete with new windows, electrical rewire, new flooring, redecoration, new kitchen, and new bathroom or wet room, dependent on individual needs. The scheme has benefitted from a new digital warden call system which allows video calling between the sheltered housing officer and tenant, video door entry and calls between neighbours within the building; thereby reducing social isolation and providing a real lifeline, which was particularly important during the coronavirus pandemic. The full redevelopment project is expected to be completed in 2023 and has been designed with future-proofing in mind; internal spaces are adaptable to accommodate customers with a variety of mobility needs. Over half of the bedsits have now been redeveloped and the communal areas are also being updated as part of the redevelopment. The refurbished communal sun lounge is now a fantastic feature for residents to enjoy.
Our aim is to provide our customers with high quality homes that they are proud to live in; these newly refurbished properties will do just that. We’re confident that the level of turnover previously experienced will also reduce with the introduction of this well-designed accommodation.

Following consultation and feedback from residents, the communal garden has been redesigned to make it more accessible and an Open Event was held in June 2022 to formally open the new Dunsop Jubilee Garden.
