Works have been undertaken by Blackpool Coastal Housing’s Capital Works Team to redevelop resident accommodation at Sheltered Housing Scheme Dunsop Court.

The properties had previously been difficult to let due to their studio design with combined living, dining and bedroom space. Each of the existing 45 bedsits have been transformed into modern 1 bedroom flats, complete with new windows, electrical rewire, new flooring, redecoration, new kitchen, and new bathroom or wet room, dependent on individual needs.

The scheme has benefitted from a new digital warden call system which allows video calling between the sheltered housing officer and tenant, video door entry and calls between neighbours within the building; thereby reducing social isolation and providing a real lifeline, which was particularly important during the coronavirus pandemic.

The project has been designed with future-proofing in mind; internal spaces are adaptable to accommodate customers with a variety of mobility needs. The communal areas are also being updated as part of the redevelopment. The refurbished communal sun lounge is now a fantastic feature for residents to enjoy.

Following consultation and feedback from residents, the communal garden has been redesigned to make it more accessible and an Open Event was held in June 2022 to formally open the new Dunsop Jubilee Garden.
