Take the first step into a new journey

Our dedicated MPT Team can offer tailored help and guidance to support your journey into work. We recently heard from the team about how they helped *Joanna take the leap into employment...

Joanna's Story

Joanna is a Polish lady who joined the MPT programme through a self-referral. During the first meeting with MPT Officer Wendy, Joanna explained that she was looking for part-time work and also required childcare due to family commitments. Since moving to England she had not worked but did have a lot of previous work experience in her native Poland.

Joanna provided her CV to Wendy which they looked through together to identify any areas where this could be improved. The CV was initially 4 pages with a full page of training dating back over 10 years. Wendy worked to condense this information during their one-to-one sessions and Joanna was extremely pleased with the help and support provided.

Wendy also liaised with Blackpool Council’s Adult Learning Team to organise for Joanna to complete her Level 3 Award in English in order to further enhance her skills and qualifications, which Joanna has passed.

Numerous calls were made to Universal Credit regarding childcare as Joanna was in receipt of a joint Universal Credit claim with her husband who works full-time. Wendy completed a Benefit calculation for Joanna which would include Childcare and they then began to look at job vacancies. Joanna found a position for a Customer Service Assistant working at Glasdon (Polish speaking) and was successful in securing the position following an interview process. Even though the job was advertised as full-time, they accepted Joanna’s request to reduce the hours to 32.5 per week.

Joanna asked what support MPT could offer in terms of childcare and it was agreed that the first month of nursery fees would be paid by MPT. Joanna started her job at the beginning of the year and got in touch with Wendy to tell her how much she’s “enjoying the challenge and adult company”. Her daughter has settled well into nursery and Joanna is excited for the future.

Joanna is absolutely thrilled to have gained employment and said that by signing up to MPT it has given her a new lease of life and renewed energy. She is more confident and feels that without the support of MPT, she wouldn’t have applied for jobs. She has made new friends and is in a very good place.
