Roots and Shoots Community Garden

Last updated: 03 October 2023

Sunday 1st October saw the official opening of the Roots and Shoots Community Garden at Aysgarth Court.

Resident volunteers have come together to form a gardening group and have transformed an area into a blooming haven, growing plants and flowers, in addition to fruit, vegetables and herbs.

The freshly picked produce from the garden was used to make home made soup, that was served to attendees of the opening event at the Community Centre, followed by apple and blackberry pie, the ingredients of which were foraged with permission from Marton Primary Academy.

The aim of the garden is to provide a therapeutic space for volunteers of all ages to learn about & grow organic food.

The community garden will help improve individual and community confidence, provide a healing space for people with mental and physical disabilities, as well as creating opportunities for recreation, exercise, therapy and education in addition to improving the overall look of the neighbourhood.

The group recently received £500 from the BCH Tenant's Project Fund to buy supplies and develop the garden.

The garden is open:

Tuesday 11am - 2pm

Thursday 11am - 2pm

Saturday 11am - 2pm
