Stop Social Housing Stigma are a tenant-led campaign that celebrates the value of social housing and its residents, breaking down stereotypes and challenging the stigma that surrounds it.
They are looking into the language that is used in the social housing sector and if it supports the principle that social housing is about people living in homes.
They want to:
- consider language used in the sector and raise debate about it
- promote a culture of home
- understand preferred language amongst tenants
- develop common currency about what language should be used
- inform Government and others about the best terminology to use.
A paper setting out the language they are considering and why they are considering it is available by clicking on the link https://stopsocialhousingstigma.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Language-used-in-the-social-housing-sector.pdf
They want to know the views and opinions of tenants, residents and staff in the social housing sector. Those who wish to input can:
- Respond to the survey: The resident survey is available by clicking the button at the bottom of the page.
- Attend one of the initial online consultation and discussion meetings
The dates of the consultation meetings and registration details, along with further information on the campaign, are available on their website https://stopsocialhousingstigma.org/
