A Question of Art - community arts programme

Published: 21 January 2025

Since 2014, Last Legs (a Community Arts Organisation) have devised and delivered creative interventions to the most disadvantaged community members across Blackpool. Their projects help combat social isolation, promote health and self-esteem and facilitate unique art works, while creating a lasting and meaningful impact on social cohesion and well-being.

Last Legs received a £4,150 grant in November 2023 from our Tenant’s Project Fund to hold a series of creative workshops focusing on art activities that support people living across our Resettlement Housing accommodation.

Practicing art skills in a relaxed, informal and supported environment, using resident’s own ideas, helped them to open up possibilities for creative thinking skills and encouraged long term positive community engagement

Residents were given the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of art materials to create some fantastic pieces of art, including (but not limited to!) stencil work, canvas prints, Christmas cards and t-shirts. Over 70 resident interactions were logged, with over 100 pieces of art being produced as a result.

Boz and Lee from Last Legs also painted a mural at one of our Young People’s homes, with support from some of the residents. In addition, 60 art packs were provided to all our Resettlement Service homes to provide supplies to those who would otherwise have no access to arts activities.

Last Legs also created ‘Makezine’, which is packed full of fantastic art and craft projects. Click on the link here to view Makezine online.
