A guide for social housing transfers

Being adequately housed is when your property meets the different needs of your household, including size, property type and any adaptations (if needed). It must be in a reasonable state of repair, accessible, not overcrowded and affordable.

Existing tenants who are adequately housed will not be eligible to transfer to another property.

Safety, health, or living conditions determine priority when it comes to housing need. Examples include:

• overcrowding
• unsafe housing
• risk of harm

You must demonstrate a Housing Need to receive a priority banding. People with No Band are very unlikely to be housed.

Available properties are let on a priority basis which means that properties are offered in order of priority banding. Applicants in higher priority bands will be housed sooner, as they have been assessed as having the highest need. Being flexible with property and location preferences often reduces waiting times for being housed.

Emergency moves are for people at serious risk of physical harm only.

Emergency moves are carefully considered and may involve temporary accommodation. If you are eligible for an emergency move, we will support you through the process.

Properties are offered as soon as they are ready, we do not keep homes empty for moves.
