Jane’s story…

Jane was referred to MPT Steps in April by the Rents Team as she had fallen into arrears with her rent. Jane wasn’t claiming any benefits as her husband works, although his hours weren’t consistent due to the job being in retail which often left them struggling for money. Jane was very low in confidence having not worked for some time and, although she had a CV, this hadn’t been updated for some time. Jane holds a full Driving Licence and said she would be happy with any job opportunity; she had had previous experience working as a self-employed cleaner.

Our MPT Officer spoke with Jane about the possibility of working for one of BCH’s partnering contractors, 3D Environmental Ltd, which has responsibility for cleaning empty properties prior to being re-let. Jane was interested and a meeting was organised with the manager of 3D Environmental Ltd. It was explained that a work trial could be arranged, which commenced at the end of May. Before the trial, Jane told her MPT Officer that she couldn’t afford to buy work clothing or the safety boots necessary to start her trial. These were purchased by MPT and Jane was able to start her work trial as planned.

Jane really just needed someone to believe in her and give her a chance – she excelled in her trial and has now secured a full-time and permanent job with the company. Jane is addressing her rent arrears and now has spare income to buy things she couldn’t previously afford.
