Garage Rent Arrears
Owe rent for your garage? Don't ignore it - we can help
If you owe us rent for your garage, you can make an agreement to pay off the debt in affordable regular amounts. This is a much better idea than simply ignoring the problem. If you do nothing, it could result with a Notice to Quit being served which could end up with you losing the garage.
Make an agreement to pay
You can phone the Income and Debt Prevention Team on 01253 477942 to make an agreement to pay and please note that we offer various methods of
how to pay your rent
for your garage.
Paying on-line
You can also make payments for your garage
on-line
using your bank debit or credit card. The money will go into your rent account within two working days.
What to do if you are served with a Notice to Quit to seek possession of your garage
The Income and Debt Prevention Team will send arrears reminder letters to your home address if you fall into arrears and if the arrears have not been cleared or a suitable arrangement to pay off the arrears has not been made or kept to then a Notice to Quit will be served at your home address.
You will then be given 28 days to clear the arrears or make a suitable arrangement to pay off the arrears. If after 28 days the arrears have not been paid in full then a lock change will be arranged and you will be notified of the date in writing. Any contents left in the garage at the time of the lock change will be disposed of.
If you have changed your address and you are not a current tenant we may not have your up to date contact address. Please contact your
local housing office
to help us keep your contact details up to date and to enable us to keep you notified with regards to any yearly rent increases on the garage for example.
This is particularly important as only tenants and leaseholders of Blackpool Council do not pay VAT on their garage.
