GAS EMERGENCY NUMBER - 0800 111 999
Blackpool Coastal Housing has a legal duty to service all its gas appliances and installations within its properties, for example your gas boiler and gas fire. If you do not allow us access into your property to carry out this work we will be forced to take legal action against you.
To find out when your service is due or book an appointment, please call us on 0800 073 0184. Alternatively you can book an appointment direct with our contractor, Read and Errington on 359985.
Gas Safety – Your pocket – The environment
3 reasons why having your gas appliances serviced helps you!
- Every year about 30 people die from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by gas appliances and flues that have not been properly installed or maintained. When gas does not burn properly, as with other fuels such as coal, wood or oil, excess carbon monoxide is produced, which is poisonous. Regular maintenance helps to ensure the safe operation of your gas appliances.
- Where a gas appliance becomes less efficient, it uses more gas and therefore costs you more money. Regular maintenance helps to maintain the efficiency of your appliances, which in turn helps keep your fuel bills to a minimum.
- Regular servicing can help reduce the level of pollutants that an appliance, such as a gas fire or boiler, gives off. This helps to protect the environment and therefore you and your children’s future.
Goodbye Corgi - Hello Gas Safe Register
On 1 April 2009, the new Gas Safe Register replaces the CORGI gas registration scheme as Great Britain’s gas safety authority.
By law, from 1 April, only Gas Safe registered engineers should be employed to carry out work on gas installations or appliances – CORGI gas registration will not be valid. All contractors who work for GGH who previously were register under the CORGI scheme are now registered with Gas Safe Register so they can continue to work legally from April 09.
All engineers will be provided with the new yellow Gas Safe Register logo, and every engineer will carry a Gas Safe Register ID card with their own unique licence number.
Before you have any gas work done in your home, make sure you check the card.
If someone other than a Gas Safe registered engineer carries out gas work at your home, you could be risking the safety of your family and your property
