Reporting incidents of ASB – diary log sheets & dictaphones

Reporting incidents is essential in any type of ASB case. Unless incidents are recorded, it is impossible to have any idea of the scale of the problem. In cases of ASB where legal action may become necessary, your record of events will be produced as evidence in a court of law. If you wish to take your own private action against the perpetrators it is likely that you will have to keep a record of incidents in this format anyway.

When making a complaint we will issue you with diary log sheets.

Key Points:

1. You must write the diary or speak clearly in to the dictaphone. Do not ask someone else to write, or dictate it for you unless there are exceptional circumstances.

2. Events or incidents should be recorded immediately after they occur, or as soon as possible afterwards and should include the date and time of the incident (denote am or pm), where the incident occurred and your location at the time of the incident.

3. If Police are called, make a note of the Police Officers name and number and ask for the log number. This will help when tracing the call later on the police computer

4. Only include events that you saw, heard or were involved in. Do not include anything that someone else has told you happened, no matter who they are.

5. Make a separate entry for each incident.

6. Ensure each sheet or cassette you submit has your name, address, and is signed.

7. Contact your local housing office to collect a dictaphone

8. Please note that if you are experiencing anti-social behaviour out of normal working hours you can report it immediately  by ringing our OUT OF HOURS ASB  HOTLINE ON FREEPHONE  0800 073 0184
