Hate Crime/Domestic Abuse
Hate Crime
Hatred is a strong term that goes beyond simply causing offence or hostility. Hate crime is any criminal offence committed against a person or property that is motivated by an offender's hatred of someone because of their:
· Race, colour, ethnic origin, nationality or national origins
· Religion
· Gender or gender identity
· Sexual orientation
· Disability
Hate crime can take many forms including:
· Physical attacks
· Threat of attack
· Verbal abuse or insults
·
BCH works closely with its partner agencies to assist victims of all hate crime. You can report a hate crime directly to your local housing office and we will respond by the next working day. Alternatively you can download a Hate crime/ incident reporting form. Once you have completed the form you can return it to your local housing office or the Police. Where required we will arrange for interpreters to be present during interviews and look to provide diaries in the most commonly spoken community languages. We will also work with Lesbian And Gay groups to continue to improve the service we offer to victims of homophobic crimes.
Domestic Abuse
Our tenancy agreement prohibits any form of domestic abuse. If you have suffered an incident of domestic abuse , we will investigate the incident and take the appropriate action. Your Housing officers will treat these incidents in confidence. We can offer you advice and support and refer you to one of our partner agencies for help.
- Blackpool Coastal Housing staff are trained to respond fairly and quickly to
all reported cases of domestic violence/abuse
-
We can help to put victims in contact with specialist agencies if you express a wish to do this.
- We can liaise with the Police if requested
You may feel, that the incident was so frightening that you need to move away from your home. We can help you do this. For a permanent move, your case would be investigated and considered for an urgent move, but this would depend as well, on whether there were any available properties.
