I have missed a Rent payment.
What should I do if I have Rent Arrears? 

You need to pay them as quickly as possible; ideally in one payment to clear the whole amount. However, we realise that this is not always possible.

If you cannot do this, you should contact the Income and Debt Prevention Team to make an arrangement to repay the money that you owe. This agreement will need to be at a level that you can afford.

If you know that you are going to have difficulty paying your rent or keeping to your arrangement, contact the Income and Debt Prevention Team immediately as they may be able to help.

If you do have problems please keep the Income and Debt Prevention Team Informed.  Don't  ignore your arrears and don't ignore any letters from us. Ignoring your arrears may result in you losing your home.

do if I do not clear my arrears?

If you do not clear your arrears we will take legal action to recover your debt. This is the last resort, we do not want to evict you if this can be prevented. Our first step will be to serve a Notice of Seeking Possession on you. This is a legal notice telling you that we intend to take action if you do not pay your arrears.

The Notice of Seeking Possession is the first step to you losing your home. We will contact you when we serve this notice to discuss your case. If you are not available at home we will invite you to come to the office for an interview.

If we ask you to come in for interview, please do so, we are trying to help you. If you cannot attend on the interview date, please contact the Income and Debt Prevention Team to arrange another time.

I need help with my debts - what should I do?

Blackpool Coastal Housing Ltd has its own Debt Advisor working within Advice Link.  If you are in arrears with your rent and have other debts, for example, Council Tax arrears, Water Rates arrears and catalogue arrears, the Income and Debt Prevention Team is able to refer you to our Debt Advisor.
