One of the aims of creating Blackpool Coastal Housing Ltd was to become eligible for additional government funding to enable us to improve the quality of the housing stock. To achieve this aim, our services will be inspected by the Audit Commission in November 2007 and if the subsequent score is a 2 star, or good, rating then significant additional resources will be made available by the Government for stock investment.
Where We Are
The Head Office of Blackpool Coastal Housing is located at Progress House, Blackpool, near the end of the M55. The current service delivery network includes three Area Housing Offices in the largest estates, with a Repairs Call Centre and support services also based at Progress House.
About Blackpool
Blackpool is Britain’s premier resort, with a history dating back almost 400 years to 1602 when the settlement consisted of no more than a fishing hamlet.
Although Blackpool Borough Council covers the smallest area of any district in Lancashire it is by far the most densely populated shire district in the north of England. With a population of approximately 150,000 and a workforce of 60,000 the town’s economy is centred predominantly on the service sector, which accounts for over 86% of jobs in the town.
Away from the town centre and seafront Blackpool is predominantly residential in character. Over three-quarters of the town’s housing stock consists of owner-occupied dwellings, with the public sector accounting for one-tenth of homes. Blackpool also has a substantial private rented sector among its accommodation. Pre 1920 terraced housing accounts for about a quarter of the housing stock and approximately half of Blackpool’s stock is made up of inter-war housing, in the main semi-detached. The size and quality of housing available varies throughout the town.
