Racial Equality Scheme
Please follow the above link to Blackpool Coastal Housing’s (BCH) first Race Equality Scheme (the Scheme). The Scheme reinforces BCH’s commitment to achieving equality in terms of employment, service delivery and decision-making processes.
The Scheme has been produced to help BCH meet the general and specific duties arising from the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000. However, in addition to the statutory requirements placed upon us as a public body, we are fully committed to race equality and work actively to promote race equality in everything we do.
This is reflected in our Values and Corporate Objectives. One of our stated values is ‘Embrace the changing needs of customers and the environment in which we work’.
Ensuring Racial Equality - Our Aims
At Blackpool Coastal Housing we aim to ensure that the service we provide meets the needs of black and ethnic minority communities and individuals.
As a provider of public sector housing we are aware of our duties to actively work to seek to eliminate institutional racism and unlawful discrimination, also to promote equality of opportunity and good relations between persons of different racial groups in carrying out our functions (Race Relations Amendment Act 2000).
We aim to provide equal opportunities and challenge racial discrimination in:
· Access to services
· Housing Management services and delivery
· Our recruitment and employment practices
We are committed to developing effective policies and practices to ensure that:
· All sections of the community have equal access to housing services
· We deliver non-discriminatory housing services
· We challenge discrimination and promote awareness of racial equality issues
· We create a service in which differences are accepted and valued within our organisation, our partner organisations and the communities we serve
· We ensure equality in recruitment and selection of staff
· We actively seek to improve our equality of service by monitoring and reviewing our policies and procedures against developments in good practice
· Our aims are consistent with Blackpool Council’s corporate equal opportunities strategy.
We require all staff to recognise their role in ensuring that our policies and practices reflect the aim of combating inequality and promoting diversity.
