Blackpool Coastal Housing > Argosy Court Grand Opening

Latest News

Argosy Court residents are holding an official launch of their newly regenerated outdoor space on Friday 30th October at 2:00 pm.

The area, which is predominantly sheltered housing for elderly residents has undergone months of fantastic transformation.

Grange Park’s Argosy Court was formerly considered a problem area with unattractive, unused land that was susceptible to parking issues. It was used as a short cut for people moving from one part of the estate to another. Residents were previously nervous about leaving their homes due to non residents congregating in the area.

Thanks to the Blackpool Council funded project the area is now securely gated with access to residents only. The waste land has been landscaped to include trellises and raised planters full of flowers and plants to give the area a touch of beauty and colour. There is a secure parking area for mobility scooters, litter bins and picnic benches. The courtyard is capped off by great new therapeutic play equipment.

Blackpool Council funded the project and it was managed by Blackpool Coastal Housing and Reassurance Plus with help from Fylde Coast Gates and Westfield Tree Services.

Blackpool Coastal Housing have also instituted a major change in their housing policy to ensure that flats above sheltered properties are now only let to tenants over the age of 40, with no known drug or alcohol issues.

Residents say that the improvements have made a fantastic difference to their lives and they now feel safe, happy and healthy in their homes and surrounding area.

Cllr Peter Collins, Park Ward Councillor, said: "This has been a much needed community led project, it has provided a safe and secure environment for our senior citizens for them to engage in a healthy life style and through the projects design, it enables residents to be more cohesive in this new landscaped leisure facility."

Richard Scholes, Neighbourhood Manager at Blackpool Coastal Housing said: "We recognised that there were ongoing anti-social behaviour issues at Arogsy Court. This fantastic redevelopment is our response to resolve those issues for our residents. They now have an area where they can feel safe and proud to live."
